TEHRAN (Iran News) –As Iran’s largest contractor for steam, gas, and combined cycle and renewable power plants, MAPNA Group has expanded its overseas activities, investing €6.5 billion in various foreign countries, the company’s managing director said.

Speaking to the press on Sunday, Mohammad Oliya said the mentioned investment has been made in a variety of projects including power plants, renewable energy, transportation, and industries, Mehr News Agency reported.

According to the official, MAPNA’s activities in neighboring countries are mainly focused on the construction and repairs of power plants, and the company has the most cooperation with Iraq in this regard.

The group has many energy-related projects underway in Iraq, among which constructing power plants and other electricity projects can be mentioned, the MAPNA head said, noting that so far, contracts for supplying 3,500 megawatts of electricity have been completed in Iraq.

“In addition to joint projects with neighboring countries, MAPNA is also participating in several projects and maintenance programs in Oman, Indonesia, and Pakistan,” Oliya said.

“We have also had plans to supply electricity in Syria, and in the turbine sector, we have exported 35 large turbines so far,” he added.

Back in August 2022, the Iranian Energy Ministry’s Spokesman for the electricity sector Mostafa Rajabi Mashhadi said the country is highly advanced in manufacturing power plants and is ready to export the knowledge for constructing such power plants to regional countries.

“Iran has high capabilities in constructing power plants, which is a great privilege,” Rajabi Mashhadi said.

He noted that Iranian-made power plants are of different types and with different cycles, with high performance and low consumption.

The electricity industry spokesman further reiterated that MAPNA Group is one of the major constructors of such power plants in Iran, which has thus far established a large number of such power plants both in Iran and abroad.

Rajabi Mashhadi said that this high expertise could be used in many of Iran’s neighboring countries.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company (IGEDC) awarded the gas storage development project in Khangiran Field (Shurijeh D Reservoir) to MAPNA Group.

In a ceremony which was held on Wednesday in presence of senior officials of IGEDC and MAPMA Group, the award went to MAPNA Group.

Due to the need to supply gas in the north and northeast of the country in the cold seasons of the year and the estimated sharp decline in production in the Mozdouran reservoir by 2025, the Iranian oil ministerinstructed development of storage facilities Shurijeh Reservoir D, which is the main feedstock supplier of Khangiran Refinery in Sarakhs Region of Khorasan Razavi Province..

In the ceremony, the CEO of MAPNA Group Mr. Abbas Aliabadi pointed to the significance of energy and its effect on the economy and daily life and highlighted the problems in the field of productivity in production and consumption. He then referred to the significance of electricity and gas and called for resolving the issue of unbalance in supply and consumption and the necessity for reduction of ratio of energy consumption to GDP.

He then said that MAPNA Group will advance the project with using home-made equipment and capability of Iranian engineers and experts.

Accordingly, MAPNA Group has been entrusted to do the following in the region in a period of three years:

– Drilling 28 production/injection wells with electricity and access roads – Construction of wellhead facilities and pipelines from the location of wells to multi-lanes;

– Construction of three multi-lanes and a gas collection and distribution center and main lines of gas production and injection along with electricity and construction of access roads to them;

– Construction of gas injection facilities with a capacity of 20 million cubic meters per day;

– Construction of refinery facilities for gas processing with a capacity of 10 million cubic meters per day;

Meanwhile the CEO of Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company said that the capacity of Shurijeh Gas Storage Facility is planned to reach 40 million cubic meters per day.

Reza Noshadi said: “Gas production has increased from 7 million cubic meters per day to 870 million cubic meters per day since the beginning of the Revolution to the extent that some observers believe that we should not have supplied gas to some cities and villages, that is, the point of criticism has been the busy schedule of the National Iranian Gas Company and the Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company.”

He added: “Today, 1,870 kilometers of large-sized pipes are on the agenda of Iran Gas Engineering and Development Company. The number of stations that are being built at the same time has doubled and this is a record, so today the country’s gas industry is a respectable peak.”

Noshadi continued: “Shurijeh field, whose current storage capacity is 20 million cubic meters per day, is to be increased to 40 million cubic meters per day and from 2.25 billion cubic meters of storage to 4.5 billion cubic meters.”

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran is capable of building wind power plants in the country with a total capacity of over 7,000 megawatts (MW), said the spokesman of the Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency Organization, known by the local acronym SATBA.

Jafar Mohammadnejad-Sigaroudi made the remark in an Instagram post on Saturday, adding that at present, the country’s wind power plant capacity stands at 302 MW, IRNA reported.

He noted that the country’s wind and solar power plants become more active in summer, generating over 80 percent of their annual electricity output, which can prove helpful in the effective management of the national network’s consumption peak during the warm seasons.

Commenting on a visit by Energy Minister Reza Ardakanian to the eastern Iranian province of South Khorasan on Saturday, SATBA spokesman said construction of a 50-MW wind power plant started in the province concurrently with the minister’s trip.

The wind power plant is expected to become operational in the next Iranian calendar year, starting March 2021, with €70 million in investments.

The project will be implemented using domestic capabilities by MAPNA Group, an industrial enterprise consisting of the parent company, MAPNA Group Company, and more than 40 subsidiaries. The power plant will be equipped with 20 turbines, each with a power generation capacity of 2.5 MW, and an 80-meter high turbine tower.

Once completed, the power plant will help reduce the country’s diesel and water consumption by 45 million liters and 125,000 cubic meters per year.

In February, SATBA announced that Iran’s total actual renewable electricity generation capacity reached 865 MW during January 21-February 19, 2020.

The country’s installed renewable electricity generation capacity stands at 3,724 MW, IRNA reported.

This comes as renewable power plants with a capacity of 350 MW are under construction in the country.

In addition, the increased use of renewable energies in the same 30-day period to February 19 helped reduce the consumption of fossil fuels and emission of greenhouse gases in the country by 1.25 billion cubic meters and 3,032 tons, respectively.

Iran is speeding up efforts for the development of the renewable energy sector. In early February, the Energy Ministry, in a report, announced that the latest data shows Iran’s electricity generation capacity from the renewables had reached 841 MW.

The report added that the country’s renewable power capacity had grown by five times since 2013.

It said a total of 120 MW-scale renewable power plants are active in Iran, including 55 solar farms that generate more than three terawatt-hours (TWh) of electricity and 19 wind farms with around 2.6 TWh of capacity, Press TV reported.

Scientific studies suggest that Iran can increase electricity generation from the renewables to up to 80,000 MW, of which around 80 percent can come from solar energy.

The Iranian government has defined a target of 4,000 MW for 2021. An umbrella development document stipulates that Iran should generate 5,000 MW of renewable power by March 2022.

An increase in renewable capacity can also allow Iran to free up a significant amount of natural gas burnt in thermal power plants and feed it to export pipelines.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The MAPNA Group, an energy engineering conglomerate, has won a $1.4 billion worth contract with a subsidiary of Iran’s oil Ministry to develop two oil fields in the Southwestern province of Khuzestan where the giant company is slated to drill and repair 35 wells.

Iranian Oil Ministry’s news service Shana said on Saturday that the deal signed with MAPNA Group is meant to improve the recovery rate and increase production at Parsi and Paranj oilfields, located in the province of Khuzestan and near the border with Iraq.

Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh and senior provisional officials oversaw the signing of the contract in Tehran between CEOs of Mapna and the National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC), which operates the two oilfields.

The official IRNA news agency cited NISOC chief Ahmad Mohammadi as saying that MAPNA would invest nearly $1.4 billion in the project for the development of Parsi and Paranj, two reserves that hold around 12 billion barrels of oil together.

Mohammadi said the contractor is expected to increase production at the two fields from the current 52,000 bpd per day to 85,000 bpd at the end of the 10-year development project.

That would mean an increased income of around $1.65 million a day for Iran’s Oil Ministry, said the report by Shana, adding that the project would create many jobs for local people while using the expertise of various Iranian firms that have become more active in the oil and gas sector at a time the country faces the American sanctions.

Mapna and NISOC signed a draft agreement for the development of Parsi and Paranj oilfields in August. MAPNA is expected to drill 29 wells in the fields and carry out repair works at eight others. Its CEO Abbas Aliabadi said on Saturday that the company has already started drilling a well at Parsi.

The National Iranian South Oil Company (NISOC) has successfully manufactured over 1,000 items used in the petroleum industry over the course of the past year, according to its CEO Ahmad Mohammadi who added that self-reliance and self-confidence have been the rewards of the Islamic Revolution of 1979 for the oil industry.

Addressing a ceremony to celebrate the 41st anniversary of the victory of the Islamic Revolution last Saturday, Mohammadi said, undoubtedly, independence, self-belief, and reliance on domestic capabilities should be regarded as one of the most important achievements of the Islamic Revolution for the country.

The NISOC accounts for over 80 percent of Iran’s crude oil output.

Addressing the same ceremony, the company’s production manager Saeid Kuti said the localization and optimal use of demulsifiers by the NISOC have resulted in cost savings of the company by over IRR 270 billion.

“More than 80% of the chemicals used by the company are demulsifiers that are used in desalination plants to separate water and salt from crude oil, which is very strategic for NISOC,” he added.

Kuti noted, “Localization of this strategic item is being performed in a variety of ways, including localization of demulsifiers using nano compounds to increase their efficiency, as well as preparation of environmentally friendly demulsifiers in collaboration with research and scientific centers.”

Kuti said, previously, all the demulsifiers used in NISOC had to be imported which incurred dependence and high costs.

In October, Iranian Oil Minister Bijan Namdar Zanganeh, in a visit to a manufacturing site of the Oil Turbo Compressor Company (OTC) in Tehran lauded the country’s self-sufficiency in producing equipment and machinery needed in the oil and gas industry, highlighting that the OTC has so far outputted 200 sets of 25-megawatt turbines.

“More than 200 set of 25-megawatt turbines and compressors have been supplied by the OTC across the country, all of them manufactured inside (Iran) and relying on the domestic knowledge,” said Namdar Zanganeh, on the sidelines of his visit to an OTC production site in Tehran, adding that the equipment made by the OTC is currently used across Iran’s oil and gas industry and on a wide scale.

He added that key equipment used in oil and gas fields is currently manufactured inside the country without any direct support of the industrial giants of the world.

The minister said that the OTC, once a partner with German industrial conglomerate Siemens AG, had been awarded around €3.6 billion worth of contracts on manufacturing and maintenance of devices used in the oil and gas industry.

He said the company had also made an investment of around €200 million to expand its services in the field.

Namdar Zanganeh admitted the fact that Siemens, once responsible for the bulk of the work on turbines and compressors in Iran’s oil and gas industry, had fulfilled its commitments on technology transfer to its Iranian partner before it stopped doing business in Iran under the pressure of the sanctions.

“One should be fair, Siemens technology transfer was perfect as it has provided the staff of this company (OTC) with proper training,” he said while insisting that Siemens withdrawal from Iran in 2010 triggered the process for indigenization of key oilfield equipment in the country.

Namdar Zanganeh said Siemens has certified the compressors and turbines manufactured by the OTC, allowing Iran to use the equipment in the oil and gas industry with more confidence.

In July, Namdar Zanganeh announced that the country successfully completed installing a super-size drilling rig at South Pars gas field in the Persian Gulf, the largest in the world, without any foreign company involved after Tehran made its industries self-sufficient to defy the US unilateral sanctions.

He announced that the 2,400-ton platform, dubbed SPD-14B, had been mounted earlier in the day by Iranian crew and experts in Persian Gulf waters off the Southern Iranian coast.

Iran has already installed 14A and 14C platform as part of the development plan at South Pars phase 14.

Namdar Zanganeh said eight similar drilling rigs made by Iranian companies would be installed in other projects until the end of the current Iranian calendar year in March, bringing Iran’s output from its offshore gas fields to 27 billion cubic feet (nearly 800 million cubic meters) per day.

Iran has sought to increase its daily production in oil and gas fields despite sanctions imposed by the United States which restricts Tehran’s ability for export.

Zanganeh had said earlier this year that Iran’s gas production at South Pars had already exceeded 21.5 billion feet (610 million cubic meters) per day, adding that Iran’s share of daily production at the field had dwarfed that of Qatar.

He also said last week that Tehran was negotiating with China to sort out the country’s role in South Pars phase 11, a project where the China National Petroleum Corp (CNPC) has been accused of foot-dragging.

The CNPC has held an 80 percent stake in the project since France’s Total withdrew last summer under US pressure.

Back in mid-December 2018, Head of Exploration at the National Iranian Oil Company (NIOC) Seyed Saleh Hendi said US’ unilateral sanctions against Tehran have led Iran to self-sufficiency in producing equipment for oil and gas production.

In 2014, Managing Director of the National Iranian Tanker Company (NITC) Ali Akbar Safayee announced that the country has attained self-sufficiency in the construction of offshore oil platforms despite the sanctions imposed by the West.

Speaking in the inauguration ceremony of the first EV charging station at Milad Tower, the CEO of MAPNA Group Mr. Abbas Aliabadi said that the significance of the station for recharging electric cars is that electrification of the transportation is one of the ways for solving the environmental problems in big cities like Tehran, adding that building such stations need proper infrastructure, and as long as there is no proper infrastructure, using electric cars in the country will be impossible.

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

Aliabadi added, “Today we inaugurated the first EV charging station for recharging electric cars which fits all standard electric vehicles. We hope the process for launching more stations in different districts of Tehran would continue in collaboration with Tehran Municipality and it also happens in other cities which announce readiness for such stations.”

The CEO of MAPNA Group reiterated that the station for charging electric cars is fully Iranian-made and it has been designed and launched by Iranians.

On the price of electricity for recharging the cars, he said that they have fixed a tentative price for the electricity to encourage people to use electricity rather than gasoline and they are in talks with officials to fix a price based on the national regulations.

He said that inauguration of the station indicates that infrastructure for electrification of transportation has begun and it is possible technically.

Aliabadi also pointed to the huge gas reservoirs in the country, adding that the country can convert gas into electricity in the combined-cycle power plants and the resulted electricity can be used in electric cars and this can halve the fuel consumption in the country.

He noted that the cost for electric fuel will be much cheaper than gasoline as one can traverse one hundred kilometers with paying 1,000 tomans by recharging his car with electricity while it will cost 10,000 tomans if he uses gasoline.

Aliabadi reiterated that electric cars cannot be charged in the houses because they need especial tools and equipment which are available in the station.

He expressed hope Majlis and government would boost cooperation for electrification of vehicles, adding that the talks are progressing well and it is predicted in the next ten years, electric cars rule the streets and gasoline cars will not be allowed to traverse.

Meanwhile Tehran Mayor Pirouz Hanachi who was present in the inauguration ceremony said that the municipality has put electrification of cars and motorbikes on its agenda which will be pursued in collaboration with the knowledge-based companies.

He said that by boosting electrification of fuels of vehicles, the amount of pollution will drop sharply. He went on to say that the process for electrification of vehicles has started and currently more than 100 electric cars are in Tehran and inauguration of the station will help electric motorbikes to roll on streets and they can be recharged at this station.

He also announced readiness in collaboration with the knowledge-based companies to take necessary measures for electrification of fuel systems of cars and motorbikes.

Speaking at a press conference in Tehran yesterday, the CEO of MAPNA Group Mr. Abbas Aliabadi said that you can find no one to be unaware of the cruel sanctions and those sanctions have cost the country dear but they have been useful at the same time.

IRAN NEWS ECONOMIC DESK

He went on to say that during this hard time, Iran has achieved major successes in different sectors and gas turbine is a good sample which has been produced due to joint cooperation between industry and universities and it has caused Iran to become self-sufficient in this field.

He noted that about 40m euros have been invested on creating its infrastructures, designing and installation.

Aliabadi reiterated that some countries only manufacture some power station equipment but MAPNA Group can claim now that it has reached full self-sufficiency in constructing power plant.

He added that this achievement has been the result of sanctions and all process for designing and manufacturing of gas turbine are carried out by Iranians.

He noted that gas turbine and rotating machines are used in all heavy transportations like rail, marine and even planes.

MAPNA Group synchronized its first 42-megawatt gas turbine on April 1 in Zahedan and it is a golden leaf in the history of the group.

Aliabadi then highlighted the process for manufacturing the new product of the group, saying that the process for manufacturing MGT40 gas turbine has begun since 2012 and it finished in 6 years. He added that the group will have no mass production of its new product and it only manufactures when it gets order. He reiterated that this product can compete with its international rivals as its safety is high.

On cooperation with Germany and Syria, he said that MAPNA Group had continued its old cooperation with Siemens of Germany , adding that the group has started cooperation in Syria since a couple of years ago and the group has so far built 2 500-megawatt power plants in Syria.

MAPNA Group is a group of Iranian companies involved in development and execution of thermal and renewable power plants, oil & gas, railway transportation and other industrial projects as well as manufacturing main equipment including gas and steam turbines, electrical generator, turbine blade and vane, HRSG and conventional boilers, electric and control systems, gas compressor, locomotive and other pertinent equipment.
