TEHRAN – Head of Iran Export Confederation says India was once one of the top five export destinations of Iran but it has been replaced by Turkey and urged Iran’s Foreign Ministry to remove hurdles in way of exports to this country.

Mr.Mohammad Lahooti said that because of the hurdles, Turkey has replaced India as one of the top five export destinations of Iran and called the foreign ministry to step in removing hurdles in way of trade with India.

He added that according to the latest statistics, Iran’s export destinations have not faced any major change in the first eight months of the current year and India has been left out of the top five export destinations of Iran.

He added India was left out of Iran’s export destinations while Iran is one of the major importers from India.

He added that the statistics show that India still sells its goods to Iran despite sanctions but the country follows the U.S. sanctions when it comes to purchase from Iran.

Lahooti went on to say that the foreign ministry should have talks with India over the decline of Iran’s exports to India and they should work to resolve hurdles in way of Iran’s exports.

He noted that despite the U.S. sanctions and the country’s maximum pressures on Iran, Germany is among top five export destinations of Iran but the figure for Iran’s exports to Germany is not significant.

He reiterated that implementation of the INSTEX is necessary for expansion of trade with Europe and by the INSTEX, Iran can take advantage of having access to markets for exports and imports.

Lahooti went on to say that the export volume grew by 16% in terms of weight in the first eight months of the year but it declined by 8 percent in terms of value.

He also said that the reason for fall in the value of exports is that the basic price of the export goods fell in the market.

He also criticized some government decisions and regulations for the fall in the exports, reiterating that due to changes in the regulations, exporters become undecided and they slow down their exports.

Lahooti noted that it is expected that the value and volume of exports would increase in the next year and the value of the exports would equal to their volume.

He reiterated that the country should change its approach towards the exports and imports of certain target  goods.

He also criticized mismanagement for decline in exports, adding that in some cases sanctions have nothing to do with decline in exports.

Lahooti reiterated that petrochemical products can be a good source of earnings, adding that before President Rouhani takes office, Iran’s petrochemical product exports hit $50b.
