TEHRAN (Iran News) – At least five civilians were killed and nine injured in the northern Syrian border town of Ras al-Ayn following Turkish army attack on Thursday.

Syrian News agency SANA reported that the Saida main oil station which is affiliated to Hasaka Rmailan oilfields in the Syria-Turkey border area was destroyed following the Turkish military attack.

Turkey on Wednesday afternoon began an offensive against border villages of Nadas, Allouk and Hamid, east of Ras al-Ayn, in Hasaka countryside.

The report also noted that the warplanes targeted the villages of Tal Halaf and Tal Arqam in the Ras al-Ayn.

Meanwhile, it indicated that the Turkish ground force entered into villages of al-Yabisah, al-Munbateh, al-Haweiyeh and Beir Ashiq in Tal Abyad, which is located within northern Raqqa countryside.

On Wednesday, eight civilians were killed and 20 others were injured in a Turkish military attack on towns of Qamishli, Dibasyah and al-Mishrafah district of Ras al-Ayn region located to the northwest of Hasaka province. Several service facilities, such as dams, electricity infrastructures and water plants were damaged during the attack.

The military operation appears to be primarily targeting the so-called Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a group largely consisting of ethnic Kurds. The SDF has been a close ally of the US-led coalition.

The Turkish military build-up responded by Syria’s condemnation on Wednesday and a promise to take action if necessary. Several other countries such as Egypt, Canada, Czech Republic, Germany and Finland also condemned the incursion.

Iran has also voiced concerns over the Turkish army attack in Syria and called on the neighboring country to show restraint.
