 Iranian feature ‘No. 17 Soheila’ directed by Mahmoud Ghaffari has won the top prize at 13th International Oriental Film Festival of Geneva, Switzerland.

Written and directed by Mahmoud Ghaffari, ‘No. 17 Soheila’ won the top prize at 13th FIFOG in competition with six other films from France, Lebanon, Morocco, Egypt and Tunisia.

‘No. 17 Soheila’ is about a 40-year-old single woman who needs to get married as soon as possible due to some genetic disorder that would complicate her pregnancy.

The 13th International Oriental Film Festival of Geneva (FIFOG) took place from 21-29 April 2018 in Geneva, Lausanne and neighboring areas of France.

According to the event’s website, this year’s theme of Hope included the visions of women, the amplified voices of youth, questions extremism and explores the complexities of Oriental societies in the face of ongoing changes.

Mahmoud Ghafari, born in Tehran in 1976, has made 15 films and edited some short and feature films so far. His first film ‘It is a Dream’ won Talent Tape Award in Fribourg International Film Festival in Switzerland.
