TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran-EU Trade Drops by 10% in First Two Months. Iran’s trade with European Union (EU) countries has declined by 10 percent in the first two months of 2021 comparing to the same period in 2020 as they traded €704 million worth of goods and commodities during January and February.

Latest data extracted from Eurostat’s datasets show that Iran and 27 members of the European Union traded €704 million worth of goods and commodities in the first two months of the current year.

As per report, Iran’s exports to EU countries have declined by 26 percent in January and February compared with the previous year’s corresponding period and it fell from 166m euros in previous year to 122 million euros. By the way, European states in the same period have exported goods to Iran worth 582m euros which indicates 6 percent slump comparing with the previous year’s corresponding period while the figure stood at 619m euros in the same period last year.

The report claims Germany has been Iran’s major European trade partner in months of January and February of this year and it has accounted for forty percent of Iran’s total trade with EU.

Germany has exported goods and commodities worth 240m euros and imported goods worth 41m euros from Iran in this two-month period.

The U.S. unilateral sanctions on Iran have affected significantly trade between Iran and Europe and it is expected by the return of the U.S. to the nuclear deal and removing sanctions, the trade between Iran and EU would get boosted.

Major European companies are reluctant to cooperate with Iran because of the U.S. sanctions and possible fines and punishment by the U.S.

The outbreak of the coronavirus has also worsened the condition for trade between Iran and EU because for months the borders were closed and the economies were challenging to survive because of the pandemic and the lockdowns.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – France, UK, and Germany (Europe) on Friday in a joint statement accused Iran of breaching its 2015 nuclear deal agreement (JCPOA) commitments and undermining the diplomacy. This statement is so funny that makes one worry about dying of laughter.

Of course, this has happened in the past that European countries have resorted to practical pretext-seeking actions and cheating in the negotiations but that these three countries without implementing or taking any step after Iran’s fulfilling its JCPOA duties, which caused the Iranian government and the negotiating team to be branded inside the country as being mercenary and lackey of enemies because of shutting down major parts of the nuclear industry and filling the Arak heavy water reactor with cement, have issued a funny statement where they have accused Iran of undermining the diplomacy, is undoubtedly like the script of a puppet-show.

This statement has got so bad and coming from imbecile minds that even Iran Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif who himself is a JCPOA culprit reacted in a tweet to the joint EU3 statement for accusing Iran of breaching its JCPOA commitments and undermining the diplomacy and wrote, “Have our E3 partners ever read para 36 of JCPOA & Iran’s many letters on that basis? By what logic is the onus on IRAN to stop its remedial measures undertaken a full year after the US withdrew from—and continues to violate—the JCPOA? What have E3 done to fulfill their duties?”

With a simple and honest glance at expert opinions of three famous political analysts and experts of the time who used to describe the Europeans as a “dread” even before the U.S. presidential election was held, and claimed in views of Europeans, the nuclear deal with Iran has turned into a magnifier that Europeans can see clearly their lack of economic sovereignty against the U.S. They state that the rift between Europe and the U.S. will remain with the re-election of Donald Trump.

The 35-page article of these authors at that time turned into the change in the position of the U.S. and current Europe. In this article which was compiled by David Jalilvand and Achim Vogt and edited by Sigmar Gabriel, the writers by taking for granted the victory of Joe Biden in the November 2020 election reviewed and analyzed the future of relations between Europe, the U.S., and Iran regarding the JCPOA. This article was published in October 2020.

In the introduction of this article even by taking conservative measures by these writers, we read, “Joe Biden has vowed in case of winning the election, he would return the United States to the deal, provided that for its part Iran is in full compliance to the JCPOA. Biden, while vice president under Barack Obama, had an important role in the nuclear deal with Iran.” According to the authors of this article, following the return of the U.S. to the JCPOA, Iran will seek the removal of sanctions and payment for the economic damages because of the U.S. pullout of the deal while Europe believes the JCPOA can simply be valid through joint cooperation between Europe and the U.S.

The authors believe that Europe should mend its relation with the U.S. immediately and instead of saving the JCPOA, it should help the U.S. at any cost to begin talks with Iran. They believe Iran and the U.S. should move to reduce tension step by step and leave the complicated issues for the later stages.

The writers believe that two issues of Trump’s gradual pullout of the U.S. from the Middle East and from the JCPOA have caused a power vacuum in the region and it is misused by powers like Russia. In the meantime, European signatories of the JCPOA have strived to save it from full collapse. They also claim that European Union because of the U.S. has been unable to help Iran economically or have trade cooperation with it.

Now with the issuance of this statement, it is observed that Europe has occupied the seat of Trump and now Biden plays the role of Europe. One should see that in which part of the history Europe has been so funny, irrational, rude and cheater. According to the political analysts in Iran, the JCPOA is moving in direction of its death and burial unless Europeans and Americans have reached this conclusion to return to the diplomatic logic and to compensate their shortcomings and to resume its delayed actions and pay damages to Iran, and continue the genuine measures of verification that the Supreme Leader of Iran has defined it as a protocol for the country in order that perhaps a semi-live is blown into the body of this dying patient (JCPOA) and its revival in a repentance climate of the West regarding its deceiving and cheating performance.

French President Emmanuel Macron, in a phone conversation with his Iranian counterpart Hassan Rouhani on Monday, stated the readiness of France and European partners to continue humanitarian cooperation with Iran, the Elysee Palace said in a statement.

“He expressed solidarity with the Iranian people, severely affected by the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic,” it said.

“He recalled that France and its European partners had delivered medical equipment to Iran and were ready to continue humanitarian cooperation,” the Elysee Palace added.

France delivered its first consignment of humanitarian aid to Iran in early March to help the country fight the new virus outbreak.

During the Monday conversation, Iran’s Rouhani wished success for France’s government and people as well as all people throughout the world in the fight against coronavirus global pandemic.

He noted that “all countries and governments should pay attention that they cannot overcome this sensitive condition without cooperating and taking advantage of experiences of each other.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, the Iranian president referred to the US sanctions, saying that friendly countries should exert pressure on the United States to lift its “cruel and one-sided” sanctions against Tehran at the current juncture that the Islamic Republic is diligently fighting the deadly new coronavirus pandemic.

“The US sanctions imposed against the Islamic Republic of Iran are in violation of the World Health Organization’s (WHO) rules and regulations,” he added.

He also pointed to the EU trade mechanism with Iran dubbed “INSTEX” and termed that the preliminary and initial measures taken by EU in the field of launching the mechanism positive but ‘insufficient’.

This path should not be limited to the medical and food products, rather, INSTEX should be used for meeting all demands of the country, Rouhani emphasized.

Josep Borrell, Spain’s former foreign minister and ex-Speaker of the European Parliament, replaced Federica Mogherini as the new EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy in late 2019.

On January 16, Borrell met with Zarif for the first time after assuming the new post.

In the meeting, held on the sidelines of the Raisina Dialogue conference in New Delhi, India, Zarif urged the European countries to meet their commitments to the 2015 nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), and correct their mistakes in dealing with Iran.

The top Iranian diplomat also provided evidence, in an outspoken manner, for the mistakes and inaction on part of the three European members of the JCPOA (France, Britain, and Germany) and their failure to honor their commitments.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif censured the three European signatories to the nuclear deal – France, Germany, and the UK – for lacking courage to confront the US intimidation and unilateral policies, reminding the trio that the only way to solve problems is to act independently from Washington’s diktats.

“For 20 months, the E3-following UK appeasement policy-has bowed to US diktat. That hasn’t gotten it anywhere-and it never will,” Zarif said in a Monday tweet, urging the trio to “muster the courage” to fulfill their obligations under the 2015 nuclear deal with Tehran.

He pointed to the failure of European signatories to save the Iran nuclear deal following the US’ withdrawal last year, and said: “the E3 can save the JCPOA but not by appeasing the bully and pressuring the complying party”.

“Rather it should muster the courage to fulfill its own obligations,” Zarif said.

His comments came after the leaders of Britain, France and Germany called in a joint statement on Iran to return to full compliance with their 2015 nuclear deal and reverse its countermeasures against the West’s failures vis-a-vis Tehran.

“It is essential that Iran return to full compliance with its commitments under the agreement,” French President Emmanuel Macron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel and Britain’s Prime Minister Boris Johnson said Sunday.

The Europeans’ call on Iran to fully comply with the nuclear deal stands in contrast to their failure to protect the Islamic Republic from unilateral US sanctions on Tehran after Washington abandoned the accord.

Tehran has particularly been disappointed with the European trio’s failure to protect its business interests under the deal after the United States’ withdrawal.

After patiently watching for more than a year and seeing no clear action from the other signatories of the nuclear deal, Iran invoked Articles 26 and 36 of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA) to let go of some of the limitations put on its nuclear work.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Hossein Amir Abdollahian, a senior advisor to the Iranian Parliament speaker, has said that INSTEX proposed by the European signatories of the 2015 nuclear deal to help reduce the impact of Washington’s sanctions on Iran lacks locomotive engine to start working.

“There is no hope for implementation of the JCPOA by the Europeans. In fact, the U.S., Britain, France and Germany have agreed on partitioning mission of weakening the Islamic Republic. INSTEX lacks locomotive engine too,” Amir Abdollahian wrote on his Twitter account, the Persian language website of Sputnik reported on Saturday.

He added “Iran needs an act to conduct fundamental reform” in view of “sanctions and economic terrorism atmosphere.”

INSTEX – Instrument in Support of Trade Exchanges – is supposed to be a financial channel and a special mechanism for transferring money in spite of U.S. sanctions on Iran. Its objective is to facilitate Iran’s transactions with European companies.

After months of delay on January 31, France, Germany and Britain finally announced the creation of INSTEX, a special purpose vehicle aimed at facilitating legitimate trade between European economic operators and Iran.

The European Union foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini, French Foreign Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian, German Foreign Minister Heiko Maas and British Foreign Secretary Jeremy Hunt has said INSTEX will support legitimate European trade with Iran.

In May 2018, U.S. President Donald Trump unilaterally pulled Washington out of the JCPOA and ordered reimposition of sanctions against Iran. The first round of sanctions went into force on August 6 and the second round, which targets Iran’s oil exports and banks, were snapped back on November 4.

Speaking at the Munich Security Conference on Feb. 16, U.S. Vice President Mike Pence urged European powers Germany, France, and Britain to follow Washington in withdrawing from the deal and to “stop undermining U.S. sanctions.”

A senior member of Iranian Parliament, Alaeddin Boroujerdi casted doubt on the effectiveness of talks unless European countries commit that they would guarantee buying Iran’s oil and continuing trade.

“I don’t think any special thing would happen in JCPOA-related talks with Europen countries, unless they commit to guarantee buying Iranian crude and preserving Iran’s economic relations,” he told Mehr News Agency correspondent on Monday.

A member of Iran’s Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission went on to say that more than the talks have lasted for more than three months and European countries have not issued their final package of proposal.

Europe’s economy depends on big companies and these firms are in part under heavy pressure of the United States, he said, adding that Total is among these companies which got out of its commitment on Iran after US withdrawal from Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA).

“It seems early to make the final judgment on Europe’s behavior regarding future of JCPOA and we should wait for their final package of proposals,” he added.

Regarding Iran’s accession to combating the financing of terrorism (CFT) and United Nations Convention against Transnational Organized Crime (UNTOC), known as Palermo bill, Boroujerdi said that as Leader of Islamic Revolution mentioned, Iran believes in financial transparency but this should not be controlled by foreigners, “so we should pass useful content of these conventions the framework of our domestic law.”

Asked whether this means that Iran may not join these international conventions, he said that these laws aim to create financial transparency and “we can achieve this goal by domestic legislation.”
