TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Foreign Minister of Iran, Mohammad Javad Zarif said that a permanent member of the United Nations Security Council, UNSC, has violated the UN-drafted Resolution 2231 on Iran’s 2015 nuclear deal.
He made the remarks while addressing a session of the UNSC held in New York via videoconference on implementation of the Resolution 2231, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.
“One of the permanent members of the UN Security Council has violated the Resolution 2231 and threatens others to violate it,” he added.
Zarif said efforts to replace US internal law with the international law have effectively jeopardized international peace.
He noted that US unilateralism on Iran’s nuclear deal, known as the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action [JCPOA] was the “main reason behind holding the UNSC’s meeting.
“All countries are witnessing that the US has violated and violated UNSCR 2231 since it withdrew from JCPOA in May 2018.”
For the first time, Zarif said, “we are witnessing that a permanent member of the UNSC has violated a resolution drafted by UN and threatens others to violate it.” He regretted that no meeting has ever been held to study the case at the UNSC.
In a tweeted message on Monday, Zarif slammed the US for urging the remaining signatories to the 2015 nuclear deal to violate Resolution 2231 that endorsed the agreement.
“The US isn’t merely violating JCPOA and bullying others to do so, too. It also has the dishonor of being first in UN history to punish law-abiding countries for NOT violating a Security Council res,” Zarif wrote on his Twitter account.
