TEHRAN (Iran News) –The president of Iran has praised as a significant accomplishment the UN General Assembly’s recent denunciation of the Israeli regime’s atrocities against Palestinians in the besieged Gaza Strip.

Addressing a Cabinet session on Sunday, Ebrahim Raisi said, “The positive vote of most member countries for the UN General Assembly’s resolution in condemnation of the Zionist regime’s crimes against Palestinians in Gaza despite all the threats and promises by the global arrogant system was an important achievement.”

Elsewhere in his remarks, Raisi underscored that all Muslims and free people of the world support the oppressed people of Palestine.

“Holding a summit meeting of the Organization of Islamic Cooperation is another step toward stopping the Zionist regime’s crimes, which must continue until a final result is obtained,” Iran’s president added.

He added that, although Israel’s military machine is fighting to restore the regime’s lost reputation with the U.S. political, media, and security backing, Palestinian fighters and the resistance front have the upper hand on the battlefield.

“The recent move by the Zionist regime to infiltrate Gaza has so far failed and inflicted heavy casualties on Israeli forces, and according to the resistance leaders’ assessment if the move continues, Gaza will undoubtedly turn into a quagmire for the Zionist forces,” the Iranian president stressed.

The Zionist regime suffered a second setback in recent weeks, worse than its initial al-Aqsa Storm Operation, he said, as Palestinian forces “created a great epic by resisting Israel’s ground onslaught on Gaza.”

“This blow was so staggering that some American analysts have described it as security and political collapse of this regime,” Raisi averred.

On Friday, the United Nations General Assembly passed a resolution asking for an urgent “humanitarian truce” in the Gaza Strip, which has been subjected to a relentless and catastrophic attack by the Israeli regime for the last three weeks.

The assembly approved the resolution sponsored by Arab states with 120 votes in favor, 45 abstentions, and 14 votes against, including Israel and the United States.

It stated that it “calls for an immediate, durable, and sustained humanitarian truce leading to a cessation of hostilities.”

The United States’ repeated vetoes of pertinent resolutions caused the United Nations Security Council to fail to act four times in the last two weeks, leading to the General Assembly’s vote.

Beginning on October 7, Hamas launched the largest offensive against Israel in its 75 years of history in response to the regime’s bloody violence against people in the West Bank.

The surprise Palestinian operation, dubbed Al-Aqsa Storm, has put the competence of the Israeli army and its intelligence bodies under serious questions.

In response, Israel launched an insane war on Gaza, so far killing over 8,000 people, with women and children accounting for 70% of the casualties.

International law professor Richerd Falk has said, “The question of Gaza’s legal status is extremely relevant to the indiscriminate and disproportionate Israeli retaliation, which has been justified by Israel and its supporters as exacting vengeance while pursuing the goal of destroying Hamas.”
