President Opens Home-Grown Petrochemical Complex
Iran has launched a petrochemical complex with the largest degree of reliance on home-grown industries.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –Iran has launched a petrochemical complex with the largest degree of reliance on home-grown industries.

The Gachsaran petrochemical complex, a project that has cost some $1.4 billion, was inaugurated on Monday in a ceremony in the presence of President Ebrahim Raisi in the southwest city of Gachsaran in Iran’s Kohgiluyeh and Boyer-Ahmad province.

Raisi said in the inauguration ceremony that the fact that the Gachsaran petrochemical plant, which has mostly relied on the potentials of Iranian experts and companies, is a true example of Iran’s resistance in the face of [US-imposed] sanctions.

Iran’s Oil Minister Javad Owji said that over 83% of the project has been constructed by the local companies and workforce, saving Iran over 269 million euros.

Owji said some 70 Iranian firms have contributed to designing, building, and installing vital equipment in the project.

Following the plans of the second round of the provincial trip of the government to Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad province, Raisi opened the Chamshir Dam as the highest roller concrete dam in West Asia and also ordered start of operation of the first unit of the dam’s power plant.

The studies for the construction of this dam started in 1994 and the implementation operations started from 2012 by obtaining the necessary permits from the relevant organizations and with a credit of about 230 million Euros, but its construction operations were stopped and slow, but with the 22-month efforts of the Popular Administration and the allocation of special credit, it has been completed and reached the operational stage.

Chamshir Dam with a height of 151 meters and a crown length of 580 meters has a reservoir with a volume of 2.3 billion cubic meters, a lake with a length of 48 kilometers and a lake area of 51 square kilometres at normal level.

After the official opening of this dam, the President was present for a few minutes among the employees of this complex and while talking and listening to their views and demands, he issued orders to meet their demands.

The President described Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad as a province with good capacities in the fields of agriculture and tourism and stated, “This province has good capacities that we will try to use in the development of the province to meet the needs of the people of Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad and increase people’s hope and trust”.

Speaking upon arrival in Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad province, which is the second trip of the Popular Administration to this province, Raisi stated that Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad has hardworking people.

He said, “With the efforts of hardworking officials and managers and with the management of the governor generals of Kohgiluyeh and Boyer Ahmad, some projects approved during the first visit of the Popular Administration to this province have come to fruition, the report of which will be presented to the people during this visit”.

Pointing out that in the second visit of the Popular Administration to the province, broader issues are considered than the essential issues of the first visit, the President added, “In that trip, there were some essential issues that have now come to fruition, and in this trip, in addition to following up on the remaining projects from the resolutions of the first trip, the new needs that have been identified for different parts of the province will be followed up”.

Raisi further described Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad as a province with good capacities in the fields of agriculture and tourism and stated, “This province has good capacities that we will try to use in the development of the province to meet the needs of the people of Kohgiluyeh and Boyar Ahmad and increase people’s hope and trust”.

The President also referred to the nomadic nature of the province and stated, “According to Imam Khomeini, the nomads are the valuable resources of the country, which should be given special attention as one of the productive parts of the country, and the necessary measures should be taken to serve them and the nomadic life”.

Raisi pointed out, “In this trip, unlike the first trip, where it was not possible to attend public gatherings due to coronavirus, we will also be present in public and, in addition to informing about the measures taken for the development of the province, the plans being implemented and also the new measures that must be implemented to meet people’s demands will be followed up”.
