Pakistan Federal Minister for Narcotics Control Visits Tehran
The meeting of Triangular Initiative (TI), facilitated by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), was held in Tehran from 13th to 14th June 2023.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – The meeting of Triangular Initiative (TI), facilitated by United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC), was held in Tehran from 13th to 14th June 2023.

The Pakistan delegation was led by Federal Minister of Narcotics Control Nawabzada Shahzain Bugti. The federal Minister was accompanied by Director General Anti-Narcotics Force, Major General Mohammad Aniq-ur-Rehman, and some senior officers.

During his stay in Tehran, Honorable Minister attended the Triangular Initiatives event.

Separately, the Minister met with Secretary General of Anti-Narcotics Headquarters Dr. Eskandar Momeni, and discussed issues related to narcotics control and smuggling through borders of the two countries.

Honorable Minister Mr. Bugti, stressed on the need to control the drug trafficking in the region, especially in the border area between Pakistan and Iran. He  emphasized  that training of law  enforcing agencies  would help in controlling the drug trafficking going through borders and would enable both countries to eliminate this menace . Dr. Momeni , agreed  on the need for continuous cooperation between the drug control departments of the two countries so as to ensure the smooth  trade going through the borders between  Pakistan and Iran.

At the end of the 14th TI Senior officials Meeting (SOM), a joint statement was released. In the statement, it was agreed that to counter the illicit drug problem, there was need to make concerted efforts by both Pakistan and Iran together. UNODC would provide a progress report on activities and achievements of   TI as well as on its progress achieved in collecting / mobilizing technical and financial assistance.

United Nations Office on Drugs and Crimes (UNODC) launched Triangular Initiative (TI) in 2007 by engaging three neighboring countries, Pakistan, Iran and Afghanistan for promoting information exchange and encouraging joint field operations among these three states against drug trafficking networks and serious operatives.
