TEHRAN (Iran News) – Director-General of the Ports and Maritime Department of Hormozgan says the organization is ready to launch direct shipping line to Saudi Arabia, noting that it depends on the rise in trade between the two countries.

Speaking to ILNA, Hossein Abbasnejad said that before recent agreement between Tehran and Riyadh, the volume of trade exchanges between the two countries was limited and insignificant and Iran’s goods were sent to Saudi Arabia via the UAE and currently the trade volume with Saudi Arabia is not significant but in case economic activists demand the launch of direct line between Iran and Saudi Arabia to reduce the cost of export to Saudi Arabia, the organization is ready to take action.

He said that in case demand for the launch of the line and the trade volume with any destination increases, the department can launch direct line to that destination.

He reiterated that the launch of line depends on the rise in the trade volume which is pursued by the related bodies.

On the possible launch of the shipping line in the near future, he said that the department as the custodian of maritime affairs is ready for restoring shipping line with countries and it can launch whenever the condition is ready.

He once again reiterated that there is no technical problem for the launch of the line and it depends on the demands.

Abbasnejad further said that in the past, there was direct shipping line between Iran and Saudi Arabia for transporting goods and it will not be the first time if the direct line is launched in the future. He admitted the amount of trade exchange with Saudi Arabia is not as much a with the UAe for witnessing plies of vessels between Iran and Saudi Arabia.
