TEHRAN (Iran News) –In an online meeting between Iranian Energy Minister Ali-Akbar Mehrabian and senior Nicaraguan officials, the Latin American side called for the expansion of ties with Iran in various fields, the Iranian Energy Ministry’s portal Paven reported.

In the meeting with Nicaragua’s Minister of Finance Ivan Adolfo Acosta Montalvan, and Laureano Ortega, who advises the Nicaraguan government on foreign investments, Mehrabian expressed Iran’s readiness for holding the next meeting of the two countries’ Joint Economic Committee.

The Iranian minister, who is the head of the two countries’ Joint Economic Committee, referred to the similarities, challenges, and political resistances of Iran and Nicaragua, and emphasized the importance of establishing political and economic relations between the two countries with regard to mutual interests and expedients.

Ortega, for his part, pointed to the priority and emphasis of the government and the president of his country in establishing relations with Iran and stressed the need for identifying potential fields for mutual cooperation.

Expressing optimism about holding the next meeting of the two countries’ Joint Economic Committee, he considered the export of Iranian oil products needed by Nicaragua as a turning point of economic cooperation between the two countries.

According to Ortega, imports of medicine, pharmaceuticals, and consumer items from Iran as well as joint investment in the fields of agriculture, energy, etc., are also among the potential areas for cooperation.

Further in the meeting, Acosta also referred to the significant progress of the Islamic Republic of Iran in all areas despite the sanctions and underlined the need for developing mutual relations and using the experiences of Iran.

Expressing hope for the opening of new horizons of cooperation between the two countries, he emphasized the implementation of the agreements reached between the two sides.
