Tehran, Tatarstan Explore Ways to Boost Economic Ties
A trade delegation from the Republic of Tatarstan, led by its Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade, attended Tehran Chamber of Commerce to explore ways for boosting bilateral trade with Iran and during the meeting they discussed different issues.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –A trade delegation from the Republic of Tatarstan, led by its Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade, attended Tehran Chamber of Commerce to explore ways for boosting bilateral trade with Iran and during the meeting they discussed different issues.

According to reports, issues like improving the transportation lines and dredging Volga River and the launch of Tehran-Kazan direct flight were discussed.

In the meeting, Head of Iran’s Export Confederation Mohammad Lahooti said that this is the second trade delegation from Tatarstan Republic visiting the Tehran Chamber of Commerce and said that this delegation is the biggest in terms of numbers of representatives of companies which has been dispatched to Iran from Russia. He added that it is expected these meetings to lead to the rise in trade exchanges between the two countries because of the position of Republic of Tatarstan in Russia.

Lahooti pointed to the upcoming visit of President of Tatarstan to Iran and announced readiness of the Tehran Chamber of Commerce to host him and said that after the start of Ukraine-Russia war, the number of trade delegation exchanges between Iran and Russia has increased and it seems both sides are keen to expand their economic relations.

He added that the current condition of tariffs and transfer of money can create problems on course to expansion of trade between the two countries, adding that in recent weeks some good decisions have been made in the field of tariffs, and by the way, using national currencies of rial and rouble in bilateral trade can create more opportunities for increasing exports and imports.

Lahooti added that Republic of Tatarstan is one of the important republics of Russia and it can play an important role in improving the trade ties of Iran with the CIS states.

He then pointed to some solutions and grounds for cooperation of Iran and Republic of Tatarstan and said that launching specialized pavilion of Iran in the exhibitions of Tatarstan as well as cooperation in the field of fishery, mining and mineral exploration can strengthen bilateral economic ties.

He then announced full readiness of Tehran Chamber of Commerce for increasing cooperation, admitting that the current tae volume of Iran and Russia is not satisfactory despite capacities and good relations of Tehran and Moscow.

Then Tatarstan Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Industry and Trade Mr. Oleg Korobchenko, for his part, introduced members of his delegation, representatives of 33 companies in fields of oil, gas and Petrochemicals. He then said that the trade volume of Iran and Tatarstan was around $40m in 2020 while there are good potentials the volume to increase.

He then pointed to the fields that both countries can cooperate and said president of Tatarstan will pay an official visit to Tehran soon and expressed hope these meetings would lead to rise in the trade volume and boom in trade between Iran and Russia.

Then Deputy Head of Chamber of Commerce of Tatarstan Mr. Artur Nikolaev, for his part, pointed to the outcome of the visit of previous Tatar delegation to Tehran and said that eight companies which visited Tehran have found their Iranian trade partners and have started cooperation. He admitted that expansion of trade exchange is not a simple issue because there are huge problems both in transportation and money transfer.

He then pointed to the interests of Tatar companies for cooperation with Iran and said that Tatarstan seeks a fair trade which meets interests of both sides. He stated that in case the direct flight between Tehran and Kazan is launched, it will pave the way for cooperation in the field of tourism.

Meanwhile Secretary General of Tehran Chamber of Commerce Mr. Bahman Eshqi called for setting up a joint work group between chambers of commerce of Tehran and Tatarstan for deepening ties between Tehran and Tatarstan.
