Caretaker of Sistan and Baluchestan Ports and Maritime Organization Mr. Naser Ravanbakhsh says Chabahar is an irreplaceable opportunity for trade and transit of CIS countries like Kazakhstan that they can have suitable access to the free waters via this strategic port.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Caretaker of Sistan and Baluchestan Ports and Maritime Organization Mr. Naser Ravanbakhsh says Chabahar is an irreplaceable opportunity for trade and transit of CIS countries like Kazakhstan that they can have suitable access to the free waters via this strategic port.

On Wednesday and during meeting with Director General of Aktau Port of Kazakhstan, Ravanbakhsh said that due to significance of Aktau and Kuryk  ports in the trade exchanges between Iran and Kazakhstan and the strategic location of Chabahar Port, both countries can take advantage of this capacity for developing transportation and transit cooperation. Then Director General of Aktau Port Mr. Abay Turikpenbaev pointed to the interests of Kazakh traders and businessmen for using Iran’s route for transit. He said, “We have inspected capacities of Iranian ports in the north-south corridor and now we have come to visit Chabahar and get acquainted with infrastructures of this region.” He added, “To activate this corridor, we need to increase co-ordinations between all sectors related to the transit and to have plans. Chabahar is a great capacity for reinforcing the ties between the Central Asia with India and South Asia.”

During this meeting, deputy on ports affairs of Sistan and Baluchestan Ports and Maritime Mr. Hossein Shahdadi briefed the Kazakh delegation of the potentials of Chabahar Port and said, “The Shahid Beheshti wharf of Chabahar is able to have docking of ocean liners and it is one of Iran’s free economic zones.” He added that Chabahar Port due to its strategic position is the shortest access to the free waters of the land-locked countries of the Central Asia, like Afghanistan, Turkmenistan, Uzbekistan, Tajikistan, Kyrgyzstan and Kazakhstan and it is of great importance.

He noted that huge construction and investments in Chabahar Port are done and construction of wharf and increasing the capacity of loading of ocean liners as well as construction of the Central Asia-bound railways and port parks in this port has made the north-south corridor as one of the biggest global routes.

The Kazakh delegation before the meeting had visited Shahid Beheshti and Shahid Kalantari ports of Chabahar and had gotten acquainted with the facilities and activities of ports in Chabahar.
