16th Festival of Majlisi Recitation Underway in Ghaemshahr
The final stage of the 16th national and international festival of Majlisi Recitation of Holy Quran began on Tuesday at Islamic Azad University of Ghaemshahe, Mazandaran Province, in the presence of top and distinguished reciters of Holy Quran.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – 16th Festival of Majlisi Recitation Underway in Ghaemshahr. The final stage of the 16th national and international festival of Majlisi Recitation of Holy Quran began on Tuesday at Islamic Azad University of Ghaemshahe, Mazandaran Province, in the presence of top and distinguished reciters of Holy Quran.

According to the schedule, the festival will continue in four stages in the cities of Ghaemshahr, Sari and Gorgan. Some 60 top Iranian reciters and 10 international regfereeing maestros are present in the festival which kicked off on Tuesday afternoon and the festival will wrap up today (Thursday) with naming the top reciters of the festival.

Reciters from 30 provinces in six groups are to compete and the top reciter of each group will qualify for the next round where the top six group leaders will vie.

The executive manager of provincial competition of the festival Mr. Safa Ranjbar speaking to reporters, said that Mazandaran Province has four representatives in the 16th festival as reciters of Ghaemshahr city of the province have won the top award for three consecutive years. He added that 60 top national and international reciters of the country will compete for the top awards.

He noted that in the past years the festival was held in Tehran where reciters used to come together for competition and the top six reciters were qualified for the national stage which was held at Milad Tower during the Ten-Day Dawn festivities but the format of the final stage was changed this year and the secretariat of the festival received 132,000 Quranic words and 51 works are picked for the international section.

He added that in the international section, Iran has 6 representatives.

Ranjbar added that the top reciters will be chosen by the popular votes as well as the Jury of the festival.
