TEHRAN (Iran News) – This year, on the 50th anniversary of the first expedition of Polish mountaineers by Jelcz to the high mountains, another expedition will take place in this historic vehicle. The aim of the expedition is to make the Polish mountain sport achievements known all over the World. Our goal is to remind the world about the achievements of Poles in the history of world Himalayan mountaineering and the organizational background of the Golden Age of Polish Himalayan Mountaineering. Through the international tour by Jelcz truck from Poland to Nepal, we care for the memory and honor of Polish climbers, participants of expeditions, with particular emphasis on the role of the drivers of these expedition trucks.

The golden era of Polish Himalayan mountaineering was in the 1970s and 1980s, when Poles not only climbed the highest peaks of the Himalayas and the Karakoram, but also became famous as the first conquerors of these summits in winter. The world initiator of these activities was our famous compatriot Andrzej Zawada.

Jelcz played a huge role in the success of Polish climbers, as our climbers travelled not only to the highest mountains in the world, but also transported their equipment and food. The most prominent Polish climbers today agree on this:

“If it had not been for Jelcz, Poles would not have achieved such great successes in the world of mountaineering”.
