Official Calls for Joint Iran-Russia Investment, Exploitation From Caspian Port
The joint meeting for activating the international north-south corridor focusing at Iran and Russia free zones was held in the presence of the Secretary of the Iranian Free Zones High Council Mr. Saeed Mohammad and some economic managers of Russian government at the secretariat of the council.

TEHRAN (Iran News) –  Official Calls for Joint Iran-Russia Investment, Exploitation From Caspian Port. The joint meeting for activating the international north-south corridor focusing at Iran and Russia free zones was held in the presence of the Secretary of the Iranian Free Zones High Council Mr. Saeed Mohammad and some economic managers of Russian government at the secretariat of the council.

The meeting was aimed at exploring ways and offering suggestions by the Russian and Iranian sides for accelerating the activation of international north-south corridor as well as attracting investment and developing the Caspian Port as soon as possible.

Addressing the meeting, Mohammad emphasized bilateral cooperation for accelerating the trend of launching the north-south corridor and said due to the joint goals of Iran and Russia in the economic and security fields, they can work together as two neighboring states for covering the acceleration trend of cooperation.

He then pointed to the economic and geopolitical dimensions of the north-south corridor and said that by the launch of this corridor regarding the economic issues of reduction of the costs, increasing the quality of the transportation, time saving, and economization in the extra costs and above all we will see the strategic and security dimensions.

He reiterated that the launch of this corridor not only Iran and Russia will benefit but also other countries in the region especially China and Turkey will benefit these joint co-operations.

Mohammad then turned to the rail and port transportation capacities in Iran’s free zones and said that with defining the strategy, we should seek solutions. He said both Iran and Russia should do their own duties and each one should accelerate its own commitments in a certain framework.

He noted that investments can be carried out through the joint companies or joint exploration from the construction of the Caspian Sea and of course it requires dredging of Volga River and in this case, using this corridor will be seriously on the radar and will lead to economic development, noting that Iran has good dredging equipment in the Persian Gulf and Iranian companies can help the project.

He then suggested a workgroup to be set up in this regard and representatives of Iran and Russia offer their solutions and ways for accelerating the cooperation via this workgroup.
