TEHRAN (Iran News) – Bitter Confession. It seems the world people gradually are realizing that how the International Atomic Energy Agency (IAEA) acts politically rather than technically and every day the UN watchdog reveals some part of its nature to the world by resorting to pretexts.

At least in the recent three decades and in dealing with some countries, the IAEA has completely acted politically and it has made the world ponder about the double-standard of this body which is to monitor the nuclear activities in the countries fairly and based on the agreements and not on the base of the big powers’ demands.

Hours after Director General of the IAEA Rafael Mariano Grossi’s visit to Tehran and on Monday, suddenly board of governors of the UN body decided not to issue a resolution against the Islamic Republic of Iran’s nuclear programs.

Reuters in a report claimed western powers on Monday scrapped plans for a resolution criticizing Iran at the U.N. atomic watchdog after Tehran agreed to prolong monitoring of some nuclear activities, even though the watchdog said Iran made no “promise” on another key issue.

The decision by the United States, France, Britain and Germany not to push for a resolution at this week’s meeting of the International Atomic Energy Agency’s 35-nation Board of Governors avoids an escalation with Iran that could have killed hopes of resuming wider talks on reviving the Iran nuclear deal.

Grossi said on Sunday that the agreement with Tehran solved “the most urgent issue” between the IAEA and Iran.

“I did not receive any promise,” Grossi told a news conference when asked about the uranium traces, the first of which were found more than two years ago at a site in Tehran that Iran has described as a carpet-cleaning facility.

On Sunday in Tehran and during his press conference Grossi acknowledged that the IAEA  had failed to fulfill its duties toward Iran and had withheld the country the technical assistance that it was bound by its statute to provide for member states.

It is a bitter confession from the head of such an international body which is in charge of monitoring nuclear activities technically and not politically. The UN watchdog or any other UN bodies are not ready to talk about Israel’s nuclear power while they monitor any move in some countries which have problems with the big powers.

The Islamic Republic of Iran has become a big target for the IAEA and whenever the country is at odd with the West, this so-called international body comes to the rescue of the West by taking political stance through resolution or threats.

Actually the IAEA has turned into a tool in hands of the big powers to be used against the countries whenever they have problem with them no matter those countries are right or wrong.

In recent years, the Islamic Republic of Iran by taking right stands has revealed some truths about the West and some international bodies which act in favor of the big powers and they should know that Iran will not retreat any inch from its rights and such international bodies should respect the rights of the nations.

The Supreme Leader of the Islamic Revolution has repeatedly said that Iran is not after having nuclear bomb and the country is just to meet its nuclear needs for its reactors and medical centers and it wants to be independent on producing its nuclear needs.

In 2015, Iran accepted the international body’s one-sided demand under the JCPOA and some conditions to minimize its nuclear activities but its result was nothing but the waste of time and energy. The former reformist government in Iran accepted all conditions of the world powers in exchange of some economic advantages but after some time, the U.S. unilaterally pulled out of the deal and the same old story of accusing Iran began in the IAEA.

So in every meeting of the board of governors of the IAEA, one can expect the board to issue some warning or taking political stand against Iran unless Iran bows down to the big powers. But this time the game has changed totally and Iran is fully aware of the political will of the IAEA and it acts based on the Safeguard Agreement without any voluntary concession unless the country feels that the big powers are serious in observing their JCPOA obligations.

The new Iranian government will not retreat any inch from the rights of the nation unlike the previous government which liked to please the West for its survival. So the IAEA and the West are better to stop politicizing Iran’s dossier and come to terms with this fact that peaceful nuclear program is the right of any country in the world and they should respect it in order to close the case.
