TEHRAN – Secretary of Chemical and Cellulosic Products at Iran Trade Promotion says the value of exporting every ton of paint stands at around $2,200 on average that its worth is almost five times more than average of every ton of the total exports of the country.

Neda Ataei said that according to the Iran Customs Administration statistics, the value of Iran’s total export of paints in 2017 was around $82m and the figure grew by 15 percent in 2018 and reached over $93m.

She added that statistics show that in the past years, Iran’s share of paints export markets was 27 percent of China’s, 24 percent of Afghanistan’s, 17 percent of Iraq’s, 11 percent of Turkmenistan’s, 13 percent of Tajikistan’s and 7 percent of Kyrgyzstan’s, respectively.

Ataei added that due to the volume of imports of paints in those countries, Iran can increase the volume of its exports to those states.

She further said the number of paint and coating productions in Iran is over one thousand units and their nominal capacity for paint and coating production is over 12m tons per year.

On imports of paints in Iran, she said that in order to support the domestic production, imports of paints have faced restrictions and only paints with special technology which are not domestically produced are allowed to be imported.

Ataei reiterated so with this approach, imports of paints in Iran in the recent years have been around $350m and it has been mostly from Italy, Turkey, South Korea, China and Germany.

She also said that due to the reconstruction process in neighboring countries like Afghanistan and Iraq as well as Syria and Iran’s good relations with them, investment in those markets and potential export target countries of Iran as well as launching active offices in the mentioned markets, Iran paint export can see considerable growth.

She further said that producing paints with special technology needs investments of pioneer companies through active negotiations.

Ataei went on to say that types of paint and coating have various usages and they are used in architecture, building, shipping industries, part-manufacturing and other industries that volume of its global market is around 37b liters per year and according to the statistics, China is the biggest paint producer in the world.

She further said that the value of world paint export in the recent five years has been around $80b as Germany accounted for 20 percent of world paint exports. The U.S. and China each with ten percent trail Germany and Japan as well as the Netherlands each accounts for 8 percent of world paint export.
