TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif in a message on August 5 referred to the creation of Iran’s first constitution in 1906 describing it the “seismic achievement” of Iranians.

“Today, Iranians mark their seismic achievement in 1906,” Zarif wrote in his Twitter account on Tuesday, IRNA reported.

The electoral and fundamental laws of 1906, resulted from the Persian Constitutional Revolution, established the electoral system, and the internal frameworks of Iran’s first Majlis (Parliament) and the Senate.

“We are now held to account by the parliament”, Zarif said.

“Demanding accountability from the king, they compelled him to allow the formation of the first parliament in our region,” he added.

“While mostly ignored before Islamic Revolution, we in government are now held to account by the Parliament,” he noted.
