TEHRAN (Iran News) – Daily air traffic at one of the airports in the Iranian capital of Tehran, mainly used for domestic flights, has returned to the levels prior to the coronavirus spread in the country.

According to a report by IRNA, the number of daily flights at Tehran’s Mehrabad International Airport has surged to 357, more than 35,000 passengers.

That indicates an almost sixfold increase compared to late March figures when air traffic at the airport had witnessed a significant decline due to the restrictions imposed by the Iranian government to curb the spread of the virus.

The number of the daily flights at the airport had declined to 90 – 5,000-7,000 passengers, during the Norouz holidays (March 20-April 1), marking the arrival of the new year in Iran.

The rise in the number of domestic flights could mean that Iranian airlines are well on their path to recovery despite the occurrence of the major crisis that is affecting the global aviation industry.

Authorities at Mehrabad International Airport said they are implementing a series of strict hygiene measures and protocols to protect passengers against the spread of the disease.
