Iran Reports: Coronavirus Cases Reaching 300,000
Iran’s Health Ministry spokeswoman said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country is about to hit 300,000.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Health Ministry spokeswoman said the number of confirmed coronavirus cases in the country is about to hit 300,000.

Speaking at a press conference on Wednesday, Sima Sadat Lari said the total number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran has risen to 298,909 following the detection of 2,636 new cases since yesterday.

Of the new cases detected over the past 24 hours, 1,604 patients have been admitted to the hospital, she added.

At least 259,116 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, the spokeswoman said.

She further put the death toll from COVID-19 in Iran at 16,343, saying the disease has taken the lives of 196 patients over the past 24 hours.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 4,027 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 2,405,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

The number of people infected with COVID-19 across the world has exceeded 16.9 million, and the death toll has surpassed 664,000.
