TEHRAN (Iran News) – The Parliament National Security and Foreign Policy Commission has tabled a motion to suspend voluntary implementation that Iran pursued towards the Additional Protocol of the Nuclear Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT), a lawmaker said.
Speaking to Tasnim on Saturday, vice chairman of the National Security and Foreign Policy Commission Abbas Moqtadaee said the motion, prepared as an urgent proposal, would oblige the government to cease the voluntary implementation of the Additional Protocol.
Many lawmakers have signed the motion in response to the US and Europe’s excessive demands, he added.
Moqtadaee said the proposal will soon be submitted to the Parliament’s presiding board.
In September 2019, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani said the country was ready to pursue ratification of the Additional Protocol in the Parliament provided that the US Congress endorses the 2015 Iran nuclear deal and lifts all anti-Tehran sanctions.
