Iran Files Complaint against US over Sanctions amid Pandemic
Iran has filed a complaint against the US in the International Court of Justice regarding the impacts of US unilateral sanctions on Tehran’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran has filed a complaint against the US in the International Court of Justice regarding the impacts of US unilateral sanctions on Tehran’s efforts to fight the COVID-19 pandemic outbreak nationwide, the vice-president for legal affairs said on Saturday.

Laya Joneydi made the announcement during a visit to Pasteur Institute of Iran, one of the oldest and leading medical research centers of the country, Mehr News Agency (MNA) reported.

“The lawsuit was registered at the ICJ regarding US inhumane and anti-human rights sanctions against Iran,” Joneydi said on the sidelines of her tour to the medical research center in downtown Tehran.

The United States has imposed new sanctions against Iran while country is struggling a fight against the coronavirus pandemic. The sanctions are imposed while US president had earlier claimed that Washington is ready to help Tehran in its fight against the fatal pandemic.

Earlier on Saturday, President Hassan Rouhani said people not wearing masks against the novel coronavirus should not be receiving public services at enclosed public spaces.

The growing number of cases of COVIS-19 victims has prompted the government to make the wearing of masks mandatory in enclosed public spaces as of Sunday, July 5, with some officials and state television anchors wearing masks on camera as part of a campaign to encourage their use.

Iran’s overall toll now stands at 11,408, with 237,878 confirmed infections since it reported its first cases in late February.
