TEHRAN – Head of Iran and Turkey Joint Chamber of Commerce Mehrdad Saadat says the outbreak of Coronavirus has affected Iran’s trade with Turkey as Iran’s exports have declined by 90 percent.

Speaking with ILNA on the latest development on Iran-Turkey trade, Saadat said that the virus pandemic was the main reason for decline in Iran’s exports to Turkey and there was no other reason for it.

He added that fortunately after reopening of borders, the trade between both countries is growing and traders are to compensate the four-month decrease in trade volume and today one can see long lines of trucks in the border with Turkey for taking their cargos into Turkey.

Saadat said that talks with Turkey are underway to ask them to increase working hours of their border checkpoints in order to accelerate the arrival of trucks into Turkey.

He reiterated that the main task of the chamber is to attract investment in Iran, adding that housing sector in Turkey in the past 15 years has been an alluring market which has had 35 percent profit and comparing to Iran it has no economic justification, noting that he does not recommend Iranians for investments in housing sector in Turkey because their profits in investment in housing sector in Iran will be two or more times more than in Turkey.
