Health Ministry: Hospitalizations in Tehran Doubled in a Month
Iranian Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said that the number of daily hospitalizations due to coronavirus in Tehran Province has doubled over the past month.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iranian Health Ministry spokeswoman Sima Sadat Lari said that the number of daily hospitalizations due to coronavirus in Tehran Province has doubled over the past month.

Speaking at a daily press conference on Sunday, Lari said that nine cities in the Tehran province are facing an alarming situation due to rising cases and deaths, noting that half of the adults beds in intensive care units in the hospitals of the province are occupied by coronavirus hospitalizations, IRNA reported.

She added that 12 provinces in the country are classified as red, the highest level on the country’s color-coded risk scale and 13 provinces are in an alarming situation.

The Health Ministry spokeswoman said the coronavirus took the lives of 216 patients from Saturday to Sunday, bringing the total death toll to 15,700.

The number of people tested positive for COVID-19 in Iran rose to 291,172 after the detection of 2,333 new cases since Saturday, she added, Tasnim News Agency wrote.

Of the new cases detected, 1,282 patients have been admitted to the hospital, the spokeswoman said.

At least 253,213 patients have recovered from the coronavirus infection so far or have been discharged from hospitals across Iran, she said.

Among those undergoing treatment in medical centers at present, 3,695 coronavirus patients have critical health conditions because of more severe infection, Lari noted.

The spokeswoman also said more than 2,327,000 coronavirus diagnostic tests have been carried out in Iran so far.

Iran has been battling a resurgence of the virus, with official figures showing a rise in both new infections and deaths since a two-month low in May.

Iran reported its first cases in the holy city of Qom in February.

The rising toll has prompted authorities to reimpose restrictive measures across the country.
