Rouhani urges CBI to pursue South Korea claims
President Hassan Rouhani called on the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) to follow up on the payment of its claims by South Korea.

TEHRAN (Iran News) – President Hassan Rouhani called on the Central Bank of Iran (CBI) to follow up on the payment of its claims by South Korea.

He issued the directive in a phone conversation with the CBI Governor Abdolnaser Hemmati on Friday, iranpress.com reported.

Rouhani criticized South Korea’s move to freeze the CBI’s assets, which has been made in compliance with US antihuman policies and within the framework of Washington’s so-called “maximum pressure campaign” against Iran, ordering the CBI governor to, in cooperation with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, pursue the issue through bilateral policy and legal channels, financial institutions and international organizations.

He added, “It is never acceptable that South Korea prevent Iran from using the CBI resources to purchase essential goods, medicine, and humanitarian items. We expect the South Korean government to lift this restriction as soon as possible.”

Earlier, Hemmati said South Korean banks were preventing Iran from using its money to buy food and medicine, which is exempted from US sanctions.
