Shiraz Ready for Cultural Cooperation With Florence

TEHRAN – Mayors of cities of Shiraz and Florence of Italy in a videoconference discussed some issues like the outbreak of the Coronavirus and bilateral cooperation on the historical and cultural commonalities.
During the virtual meeting, Mayor of Shiraz is Heidar Eskandarpour said the outbreak of the Coronavirus showed that regardless of borders, races and geography, people in the world are facing with a common problem and to overcome this problem, they should work together for a joint solution.
He added that after the containment of the virus, the world would be a different world and those cities which have cultural commonalities can play more roles in this climate.
Eskandarpour announced Shiraz readiness for cooperation with Florence in the cultural commonalities.
Mayor of Florence Mr. Dario Nardella, for his part, said that Shiraz because of its rich history is famous internationally.
He added he is interested in Shiraz and Iran because his father was an orientalist especially working on Middle East issues and he knew Persian language and there were lots of books on Persian language in his house.
Nardella added that Florence is on the verge of resuming economic activities but the city faces social and economic crises which have damaged the city.
He reiterated that the city is trying to reduce the damages because Florence as a tourist destination hosts 14m visitors annually and it is currently facing serious problems.
Nardella added that Florence is to hold the 700th anniversary of Italian poet Dante and it will have an international program, adding that they can invite Iranian and Italian linguists from Shiraz and Florence to the ceremony.
He admitted that due to his interest to Shiraz, he had plans to visit Iran this year but he is sure that Florence can bolster ties with Shiraz in 2021.
