The CEO of Bank Melli Iran (BMI) has urged people to use online banking service while the country is fighting with Coronavirus and experiencing lockdown and social distancing.

TEHRAN – The CEO of Bank Melli Iran (BMI) has urged people to use online banking service while the country is fighting with Coronavirus and experiencing lockdown and social distancing.

Speaking in a press conference, Dr. Mohammad Reza Hosseinzadeh said that according to the health ministry statement, banks are considered as one of the contaminated places for contracting Coronavirus and despite requests of banks from clients for using online services and to avoid physical presence in the banks, people still rush to the banks for their banking services and his colleagues in the banks offer services to meet people’s demands.

Hosseinzadeh who is head of coordination council of banks admitted that 42 bank staff have lost their lives because of contracting Coronavirus and emphasized the role of banks and performance of their staff in the current condition.

On cooperation with owners of industries and occupations, he said that BMI will do its best to alleviate the woes of owners of some jobs who have suffered financially because of the outbreak of Coronavirus by extending maturity date of their installments.

He reiterated that those owners and job owners who avoid dismissing their staff because of the Coronavirus effects will be granted some loan facilities to continue their jobs.

Hosseinzadeh went on to say that banking system is one of the jobs which has suffered financially because of the virus, admitting that transactions have fallen in this period and it is expected dear people to understand the current condition and to cooperate with banks’ staff in this critical moment.

He further said that to materialize the Supreme Leader’s remarks for surge in production, banks have especial programs for the current year to boost economy and domestic production in order to push national economy and industry forward.

He stated that working hours of the banks will be based on what has been approved by the government.

He once again urged people to avoid their physical presence in banks and instead they use online services.
