TEHRAN – Head of Iranian National Standards Organization, Nayereh Pirouzbakht, says studies show that the quality of domestically produced gasoline has no problem and it is not pollutant.

Speaking in a press conference yesterday, Pirouzbakht said that the organization has taken 132 samples of distributed euro 4 gasoline in the country since the beginning of cold season and the result of tests on the samples shows that the distributed gasoline is not pollutant.

She said the amount of octane, aromatics, olefins and sulfur in the distributed and consumed gasoline all have been even below the allowed limit.

Pirouzbakht further said the results of tests during the summer also showed the quality of gasoline had no problem.

She went on to say that the organization is after revising its policy in order to improve the quality of the distributed gasoline from euro 4 to euro 5 and euro 6 and the draft of this act is ready.

She reiterated that according to Clean Air Act, Department of Environment (DOE) is in charge of quality of gasoline or gas oil, adding that if is felt necessary, INSO is ready to cooperate with DOE.

On the dual fuel vehicles, she said there is no need to worry, admitting that most of dual fuel vehicles in the country are non-standard.

Pirouzbakht admitted that some tragic accidents have happened for the vehicles with non-standard dual fuel systems.

On the contaminated corn cargo and its import into the country, she reiterated no contaminated corn has been imported into the country, adding that just one consignment of imported corn was identified and destroyed at the customs of Imam Khomeini Port and it did not enter into the country.

She also pointed to the change in the approach of the organization for preparing new regulations for standards, saying that the organization has put on agenda revision of standards for 100 items of strategic commodities like standard of wheat and rice.

Pirouzbakht concluded that the organization has set up a jurisprudence council for halal goods and so far, 63 items of goods have received certificates from this council.
