TEHRAN (Iran News) – Iran’s Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif said rescue and relief operations are underway in the province of Sistan and Balouchestan in southeast of Iran to help those affected by floods caused by heavy rains.

“Unprecedented floods are ravaging #Iran’s Sistan & Baluchistan province, with significant human & material costs, even, as search and relief operations continue, focus, will be on restoring livelihoods. Our thoughts and prayers are with our affected compatriots,” Zarif tweeted late on Monday.

Leader of the Islamic Revolution Ayatollah Seyed Ali Khamenei ordered Iranian state-run bodies and non-governmental organizations to provide more aid to people affected by the flooding in several cities and villages in southern and southeastern Iran.

Sistan and Balouchestan has been affected in the most severe way due to record-breaking rainfall in years.

Flood poured into the two provinces inundating around 350 villages, interrupting the people live in the area.

Heavy rainfall over the last two days has caused seasonal rivers to flood into towns, causing extensive damage to infrastructures and people’s homes.
