TEHRAN (Iran News) – Defense Ministry of Afghanistan said two military personnel were killed in a helicopter crash on Wednesday. The chopper was traveling from Farah’s capital to the Parchman district of the province.

“An AAF helicopter (MI-35) crashed just before noon today in Parchaman District, Farah province, due to technical issues. Sadly two of our brave pilots were martyred”, Afghanistan’s Ministry of Defense said, Sputnik, reported.

The ministry has expressed its deep condolences to the families of the pilots.

Farah Governor Mohammad Shoaib Sabet specified that the before the crash, military helicopter was transporting ammunition to the province’s district of Parchaman in Afghanistan.

Earlier this year, a helicopter of the national army also crashed in Balkh province.

The Indian government delivered four M-35 attack helicopters to the Afghan Air Force last year.

Since 2016, Afghanistan has requested that the Indian government make available spare parts to refurbish almost 50 Soviet-era helicopters and some AN-32 medium transport aircraft.

A U.S. service member last died in Afghanistan on Sept. 16 and Wednesday’s crash comes amid signs the U.S., Taliban and Afghan government are trying to restart peace talks after President Donald Trump canceled them after a Taliban suicide bomb attack in Kabul on Sept. 5 that killed a U.S. soldier and 11 others.
