TEHRAN (Iran News) – Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei, Islamic Revolution leader approves pardoning and commuting the sentences of as many as 3,552 prisoners.

The Leader approves pardoning and commuting the sentences of 3,552 prisoners at the request of Iran’s Judiciary Chief Ebrahim Raeisi to pardon or reduce the sentences of prisoners subject to mitigating circumstances.

Ayatollah Khamenei issued the approval on Thursday on the occasion of the birth anniversaries of Prophet Muhammed and Imam Sadeq (PBHT).

The prisoners, who were granted the clemency, had had their verdicts issued at the country’s courts of common pleas and revolutionary courts, the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces, and the State Discretionary Punishment Organization.

They had been found eligible for receiving the clemency by the relevant judicial authority.

Ayatollah Khamenei regularly issues such as approvals on various celebratory occasions.

Earlier in April, Ayatollah Khamenei agreed to a request by Iran’s Judiciary Chief Hojjatoleslam Seyyed Ebrahim Raeisi to pardon or reduce the sentences of the eligible inmates convicted by courts of common pleas, the Islamic Revolution tribunals, the Judicial Organization of the Armed Forces and the State Discretionary Punishment Organization.

The decree came on the occasion of Eid al-Mab’ath, the day Prophet Muhammad (PBUH) was appointed as God’s messenger, and the anniversary of the 1979 establishment of the Islamic Republic on Farvardin 12 (April 1), known as the “Islamic Republic Day”.
