Oman Can be a Launchpad for Iran to Africa’s Market
TEHRAN – Chairman of Urmia Chamber of Commerce says the Sultanate of Oman due to its huge trade capacities with African countries can be a launchpad for Iran to have access to the African markets.

Addressing the Forum on Introducing the Trade and Investment Opportunities in Urmia, Mr. Hassan Entezar said that Oman can be a gateway to the African market and Iranians should take advantage of it.

He then pointed to the capacities of West Azarbaijan Province in different sectors, adding that West Azarbijan is unique for having over 967 kilometers of border with three countries enjoy having 5 ports of entry, 33 industrial parks and agro capacities.

He added that the province exports 2.5m tons of sugar beet, 1.5m tons of apple, 21,000tons of honey, 200,000 tons of grape and 400,000 tons annually.

Entezar reiterated that the province accounts for 65% of fruit juice and concentrate in the country and it is among top producers of bitumen and insulation for moisture.

He also pointed to the good relation between the province and Oman, saying that the province and the country have good bilateral relation and Oman can be a good launchpad for Iranian business activists to the African markets.

Meanwhile Oman Ambassador to Tehran Saud bin Ahmed Khalid al-Birwani, for his part, said that economic activists of West Azarbaijan can take advantage of economic opportunities in Oman. He added that Oman and West Azarbaijan can cooperate in fields of trade, economy and tourism.

He added that during his six years of stay in Tehran he has tried to strengthen relations between both countries and explored ways of economic cooperation but it is still far from the ideal cooperation between both states.

Meanwhile head of Iran-Oman Joint Chamber of Commerce Mr. Mohsen Zarrabi said that the number of commercial attaches of Iran has been reduced in embassies due to the devaluation of national currency and the number of commercial attaches has fallen from 21 to 8.

He said the increase in the number of the commercial attaches will help the country to boost trade with other countries as well as establishing more joint chambers of commerce.

Zarrabi added that head of Trade Promotion Organization has promised to increase the number of the commercial attaches to 15.
