Iran Witnesses 21% Growth in Exports of Apparel Industry
TEHRAN – Minister of Industry, Mine and Trade says the government set target to expand textile and apparel industry to hit $1.2b by 2020.

Mr. Reza Rahmani said that the ministry has special approach towards the textile and apparel industry and this sector is one of the major axes of the activities of the ministry.

He added that textile industry due to its background and successful history in the national industry has been paid special heed by other nations and as the result the ministry pays special attention to it.

Rahmani added that apparels have been of those products whose amount of contraband has declined significantly, adding that fortunately the statistics indicate good growth in exports of national apparel industry last year comparing to the preceding year and it showed 21 percent growth.

He noted that due to the programs of the ministry, indexes in some parts of the industry in the country have grown and pointed to the statistics for exports.

He went on to say that production of thread has grown by 10% while the production of textile has grown by 24 percent and the growth in production of blanket witnessed 252% and the growth for production of machine woven carpet and floor covering has been around 10%.

He went on to say that activists in the apparel industry have announced readiness to fully cut imports of apparel.

Rahmani went on to say that the government has plans to indigenize some imported industrial commodities worth over $10b by 2020.

He added that all problems of the industries can be solved by domestic forces, noting that the volume of exports in the neighboring states is over $1300b annually and the country needs planning to take advantage of this opportunity in favor of its industry.

He also said that the ministry’s program is to indigenize imported commodities by 2020 and it will save over $1.2b only in the apparel industry.
