Saving $15m by Domestically Manufacturing  Four  S. Pars Platforms
TEHRAN - Iran has saved as much as 150 million dollars by domestically manufacturing 4 platforms belonging to the massive South Pars gas field.

Operator of Phase 14 of the gas field said four platforms of the field had saved the country 150 million dollars, adding that the remaining platforms of the phase would come online in fall.

Following installation of Platform 14B, Mohammad Mehdi Tavassolli Pour said that platforms A and C of the phase were launched last year and the third platform (14B) would become operational within the next 30 to 45 days.

He said satellite platform 14D was the last of the platforms to be installed in the offshore phase, adding that the structure’s construction had gained 92 percent progress and would be installed by fall.

“Drilling operations over 11 offshore wells in the phase have also been completed,” he added.

He said the four platforms of the phase had cost $550m for the country, saving the country $150m by outsourcing them to foreign manufacturers.

He noted that major parts and equipment for the project were provided through European countries and some through East Asian states.

On the progress of constructing B14 platform, he said the project progresses well as 97 percent of the project has finished and it is in the last stage.

Platform B of the phase was fully installed at its designated offshore spot on Saturday, July 13, 2019 by domestic experts in Persian Gulf waters.

The 2,400 structure is designed to produce 14.1 million cubic meters per day of natural gas from the join gas field. Iran shares the massive gas field with Qatar.

The offshore section of Phase 14 comprises 4 platforms including two satellite platforms each with 500 mcf/d of gas production capacity.

Meanwhile addressing the ceremony of installing the platform, Head of Industrial Development and Renovation Organization of Iran (IDRO) praised the performance and capabilities of domestic experts and engineers in the IDRO and in Iran Shipbuilding and Offshore Industries Complex Co. which are record holders for installing the gas-platform of A14 in the Persian Gulf in just 26 days and expressed hope the record would improve during the installation of B14 platform.

Mohammad Baqer Aali added that the achievement is the result of practical trust of Oil Ministry to Iranian experts and handing over the construction of Platform 4 of Phase 14 to them which cost $600 and also handing over the project of Phase 14 to domestic manufacturers worth $5b.

He claimed during constructing the platform around 10m man-hours job were created and around $150m has been spent for the platform which saved huge amount of forex and it also boosted domestic business.

Aali reiterated that B14 platform is the most Iranian gas platform of the country and it has been fully designed by Iranian experts and 60 percent of its parts have been manufactured domestically.
