IAEA’s Board of Governors Under U.S. Pressure
IAEA’s Board of Governors Under U.S. Pressure
The official website of the U.S. Mission to the International Organizations in a statement claimed, “On July 5, in accordance with Rule 11 of the Provisional Rules of Procedures of the IAEA Board of Governors, U.S. Ambassador to International Organizations in Vienna Jackie Wolcott requested a special meeting of the Board to discuss the IAEA Director General’s latest, concerning report on the Iran’s nuclear program.

The United States strongly supports the IAEA and its verification efforts in Iran. As Ambassador Wolcott has previously stated to the IAEA Board of Governors, the Director General’s thorough and factual reporting on Iran’s activities – and any changes in those activities – is essential for the Board to exercise its authority to accurately assess Iran’s implementation of its safeguards obligations and nuclear commitments. The international community must hold Iran accountable.”

It should be noted that the U.S. government on May 8, 2018, unilaterally pulled out of the JCPOA which had been endorsed by the United Nations Security Council. Almost one year after the U.S. illegal pullout of the JCPOA and on July 1, Iran in response to the U.S. pullout and Europe’s lack of commitment regarding to its undertakings to the JCPOA announced that the amount of its uranium enriched to 3.67 percent purity has surpassed 300 kilograms.

Surpassing the permitted ceiling of enriched uranium happened just days before the legal warning and the deadline by Iran’s Supreme National Security Council to the remaining signatories to the JCPOA, in other words, UK, France, China and Russia, in order to fulfill their undertakings especially in the oil and banking sectors.

Iran, also in an important statement addressing the world, said that its move was a response to injustice and to protect its national pride and dignity and based on  the paragraphs 26 and 36 of the nuclear deal.

JCPOA signatories had undertaken in 26 paragraphs to stop return of sanctions or imposition of more sanctions which are against the JCPOA agreement.

In the deal, the signatories had accepted that the U.S. with good will would do its best to save the deal and it would prevent any action which deprives Iran from its benefits from the deal and all had been stipulated in the enclosed No.2.

In return in paragraph 37, it has been stipulated that in case sanctions either partially or fully are reimposed, Iran could consider it an end to the agreement for its complete or partial halt of its undertakings.

Regarding this issue, Permanent Mission of the Russian Federation to the United Nation Mr. Mikhail Ulyanov in a message offered his surprise of U.S. recent request to convene IAEA Board of Governors’ special meeting. “International relations are full of surprises which contradict common sense. The U.S. withdrew from JCPOA and tries to ruin it completely in violation of international law,” Ulyanov wrote in his Twitter account on Friday night.

Having infiltrators and clandestine agents in organizations and planning detrimental plots against the nations, creating media hype and pressure, and threats and hypocrisy, and under the table payments are all the tools which are used by the big powers in weakening the countries; and today definition for justice and abiding by the law in the world is just a definition for making the books colorful and it has no role in action or to the interests of human beings. Today the world is administered by the law of the jungle and anybody in this jungle is after feeding itself by eating the corpse of an unarmed creature at expense of injustice, and pushing the board of governors of the IAEA is not out of this context.
