Tehran, Hanoi Target $2b Trade Volume
TEHRAN – Iran and Vietnam yesterday set target for boosting bilateral trade volume by $2b and discussed ways for materializing it.

The general assembly of Iran-Vietnam Joint Chamber was held yesterday and the new members of the board of directors of the chamber were elected.

Addressing the assembly, Vice-President of the Iranian Chamber of Commerce Mr. Pedram Soltani pointed to the crucial tasks of the joint chambers during the sanctions era and called for utilizing the maximum capacities of the chambers to thwart destructive impacts of sanctions especially in the international scene.

In the meeting, Iranian and Vietnamese officials exchanged views for enhancing the bilateral trade volumes and increasing it to $2b.

Soltani noted that one of the major tasks of the joint chambers is to identify and attract people who are active in the markets of other country.

He reiterated that today Iran is in the sanctions and sanctions have created restrictions in the international trade and it is considered a threat to the performance of the joint chambers.

He reiterated that the joint chambers have capacities to boost economic capabilities of the countries in the international markets and they are considered as Iran’s arms in the international business activities.

Meanwhile Vietnam Embassy’s Commercial Attache, for his part, pointed to the old diplomatic ties between Iran and Vietnam which dates back to 68 years ago, admitting that the current economic relation of both countries is unsatisfactory despite having good political relation.

He went on to say that the trade volume of Iran and Vietnam was around $240m last year which is insignificant figure.

He pointed to the common potentials and capacities of both countries for cooperation in tourism and other fields, adding that he believes the current trade volume is very low and efforts of joint chamber could boost the bilateral trade and the joint chamber can be a link between business activists of both countries.
