Austria Eyes Resuming Flights to Iranian Cities
TEHRAN - Austria's Ambassador to Tehran Stefan Scholz during his visit to Shiraz, Fars Province, and in meeting with Head of Shiraz Chamber of Commerce Mr. Jamal Razzaqi said that Austria is doing its best to restore direct flights to Iran and some Iranian cities.

During the meeting, Scholz said Austria has always continued cooperation with Iran and its Uber Bank in 2017 allocated special credit line for economic cooperation between both states and Austrian Airlines has kept its flights to Iran after the Islamic Revolution and even during the war.

He also said that he understands Iran’s feeling towards the JCPOA and believes Iran is right to criticize and his visit to Fars Province is for talks and it is some part of Austria’s efforts in line with saving the JCPOA.

He added that Austrian Embassy in Tehran pursues two major strategies, and identification of joint grounds for cooperation is one of them.

Scholz added that it is for preparing the ground for expanding relations in all aspects like economic one with Iran as soon as the new international mechanism becomes operational.

He reiterated that Austria does not believe in the U.S. Secondary Sanctions but it is reality dominating the world.

He noted there are three major fields where Austria and Fars Province can cooperate, adding that those fields are not under unsanctions.

He pointed to the halt in direct flight between Austria and Shiraz, adding that Austria is doing its best to restore the flight to Iran and its different cities.

Razzaqi, for his part, urged the Austrian Embassy to talk with its high-ranking officials to find ways for resolving banking problems which is the main hurdle in way of business activists.

He also criticized Europe for not observing its commitments regarding the JCPOA, adding that he expects Austrian Ambassador to consult with his high-ranking officials to resolve Iranian businessmen problems.

He then pointed to the potentials of the province for cooperation, adding that direct flight between Vienna and Shiraz can be a good capacity for trade and cooperation in tourism, and expressed hope the flight soon would resume.
