The jury of the 9th Ammar Popular Film Festival (APFF) announced on Thursday that no feature fiction movie deserved the best film award as they awarded “Special Award” by Seyyed Ali Seyyedi an honorable mention.
“Special Award” is about a young boy who dreams of having a bicycle, but his family cannot afford his wish. He enters a cultural competition organized at a mosque that plans to award a bicycle to the winner.
The closing ceremony of the festival, which aims to take a global view of cultural, socio-economic, environmental and political issues that may endanger peace, freedom and justice in the world, was held at Tehran’s Felestin Cinema.
In the mid-length fiction movie category, the award for best film went to “Needle” directed by Yusef Jafari. The film is about a group of volunteers who arrive in a remote village to provide medical services for villagers, among whom no children are present. Consequently, they began a search to track down the children.
The short fiction films “#Don’t Send” by Saman Ghanaemi and “It’s at an End” also received awards.
Several documentary films were also awarded on the sidelines of the festival.
“In the Name of Father” by Mohammad-Taqi Rahmati received the Golden Lantern for Best Documentary on Economic War.
The award for Best Documentary on the Defenders of the Holy Shrines was presented to “Rescue” by Amir-Hossein Noruzi. “Defenders of the Holy Shrines” is applied to those Iranian soldiers who fought the Daesh forces in Syria and Iraq.
“The Son the Imam” by Seyyed Mohtasham Ali Naqavi won the award for Best Documentary on Islamic and Global Awakening, while “Once Upon a Time Trump” produced at the Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting was awarded as Best Documentary on Soft War and Cultural Front.
Established by a number of Iranian revolutionary figures, the festival has been named after Ammar Yasir, a close companion of Prophet Muhammad (S).
Director Sirus Moqaddam was also honored with a Golden Lantern for the fifth sequel he made to his popular TV series “Paytakht”, which was broadcast on IRIB’s Channel 3 during the Noruz holidays last March.
