The European Union is opposed to the United States’ decision to reimpose oil and financial sanctions against Iran, European Economic Affairs Commissioner Pierre Moscovici said on Monday.

“The European Union does not approve of it,” Reuters quoted Moscovici as telling franceinfo radio, hours after further US sanctions on Iran came into force.

In a Friday joint statement issued by  European signatories of Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the parties voiced deep regret over the further re-imposition of sanctions by the US, due to the latter’s withdrawal from the nuclear deal back in May.

The parties to the JCPOA also voiced commitment to working on, among other things, the preservation and maintenance of effective financial channels with Iran, and the continuation of Iran’s export of oil and gas.
