TEHRAN – An Iranian Assyrian lawmaker said on Friday the U.S. does not take any steps in favor of the Iranian nation, stressing Iran should primarily rely on its domestic capabilities rather than looking abroad.

“If a country wants to be thriving, it should not trust America,” said Yonathan Betkolia, who represents the Assyrian and Chaldean communities, Fars reported.

He further emphasized that the U.S. not only seems unreliable presently but it hasn’t been proved reliable over the course of its history.

“What is important is that we should preserve our national unity in the current situation and rely on our inner capacity.”
