Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Ghasemi underlined on Saturday that Iran supports Turkey in the face of US sanctions on Ankara.

Iranian Foreign Ministry Spokesman Bahram Ghasemi reassured that Iran will provide all kinds of help and support to Turkey in the face of US threats to pose sanctions on Ankara.

“Others cannot bend nations to their will with the use of force and threats,” he asserted after US threatened to levy sanctions on Turkey.

“First of all, I’d like to express my disappointment with the behavior of [US] president whose utmost happiness is to sit in his office and deliver blows to the economy of another country on this side of the world, and to set figures and dates to lower the value of the national currency of that country,” Ghasemi said.

He then reassured that this policy would fail and yield no result; “I hope that wisdom and reason return to our world and the relations between the countries will be based on rationality, tactfulness, and good will,” he maintained.

Iran has always been ready to support the country, people and government of Turkey,” Ghasemi added.

He voiced hope for the success of the people and government of Turkey in the current situation that has been imposed from the outside.

“I have a message for our neighbor: you are not alone and don’t feel isolated. We will always on your side and provide you with any help within our power,” he stressed.

“The reality of neighborliness is an important issue and without it, it will be impossible to achieve stability, security and peace in the region,” said the Iranian diplomat.

Earlier on Saturday, Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif posted a message on Twitter condemning the US president’s move of levying economic sanctions on Turkey.

“Trump’s jubilation in inflicting economic hardship on its NATO ally Turkey is shameful,” Zarif said in a tweet. “The US has to rehabilitate its addiction to sanctions and bullying or entire world will unite—beyond verbal condemnations—to force it to,” the Iranian foreign minister warns the US administration of the consequences of its hostile economic policies.”

Zarif further promised Turkey that Iran will support the neighboring country in the face of the US sanctions, saying “we’ve stood with neighbors before, and will again now.”
