TEHRAN – The Music Office of the Ministry of Culture and Islamic Guidance gave its formal approval on Tuesday to vocalist Homayun Shajarian’s plan to perform free concerts on the streets.

In a post published on his Instagram on Monday, Shajarian said that he is ready to organize several concerts on the streets in order to boost the spirits of Iranians during the current adverse economic conditions confronting the country if the cultural authorities would grant the necessary permission.

“The Music Office is ready to issue permissions for those musicians who are interested in performing outdoor concerts in order to bring hope and joy to the public,” the office said in a statement.

In Iran, musicians must get cultural authorities’ official approval before giving a performance.

Earlier in July, Shajarian cancelled his “Si” concerts due to the current unfavorable economic conditions facing the Iranian people.

A public relations team for the Si concert said that the musical drama has been postponed indefinitely until the Iranian people “feel fewer concerns about their livelihoods.”
