The chairman of the Economic Commission in Iran’s Parliament says that MPs will likely question President Rouhani over handling of the economy in the coming weeks.

President Rouhani had to change the governor of the Central Bank of Iran on Wednesday in a bid to quell the lawmakers’ opposition to the handling of the economy and sharp decline in the value of the national currency.

Chairman of Iranian Parliament Economic Commission Mohammad-Reza Pour-Ebrahimi told Mehr News correspondent today that if the number of collected signatures from the lawmakers exceeds 74, the bill to question the president will be handed over to the speaker of the Parliament and President will likely have to answer the lawmakers’ questions in relation to handling of the economy.

Pour-Ebrahimi further said that questioning the president was brought up in the last week’s session of the Economic Commission, attended by the several cabinet members, including the economy and labor ministers.

He further noted that the economy minister’s impeachment will be on the agenda of the Economic Commission in the coming week’s sessions.
