Iran’s interior minister quashed rumors that several people have been killed during Saturday night’s violent demonstrations in the southwestern city of Khorramshahr, saying there has not been a single report of someone being killed in the protests.

In comments on Sunday, Interior Minister Abdolreza Rahmani Fazli denied reports of deaths during last night’s protest in Khorramshahr.

“There was not a single death case. There was one case of injury last night that (the victim) has been taken to the hospital,” the minister said of protests in Khorramshahr.

His comments came after Israeli and Western media outlets reported that at least four people have been killed in Khorramshahr by the security forces during protest rallies.

Khorramshahr and Abadan, two major cities in the energy-rich province of Khuzestan, have been facing severe fresh water shortage in recent weeks.

Temperatures in the cities of Khuzestan have risen to above 50 degrees Celsius (122 degrees Fahrenheit) in recent days.
