Iranian referee Alireza Faghani together with linesmen Reza Sokhandan and Mohammad Mansouri will officiate third-place playoff match of the 2018 World Cup between England and Belgium.
Showing great performance during their last 3 games, the Iranian referee team were selected by FIFA to officiate one of the two final matches of the event.
Faghani officiated Germany vs Mexico and Serbia vs Brazil matches in the group stage of the competition.
He also took charge of Argentine-France in the quarter-finals and truly proved his expertise in the field.
Faghani hasn’t used VAR (video assistant referee) during the last three matches.
This is the first time that an Iranian team will officiate in this stage of World Cup finals.
The match will be held on Saturday at the Saint Petersburg Stadium.
Born in 1978, Alireza Faghani has been on the international list of referees since 2008 and has officiated important matches like 2014 AFC Champions League Final, 2015 AFC Asian Cup Final, 2015 FIFA Club World Cup Final and 2016 Olympic Football Final.
