TEHRAN – Iranian Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi says corruption is a “big threat” against national security, stressing the need to implement e-government for greater transparency and reducing corruption.

“Earlier, implementing e-government meant a luxury thing which would at the best reduce traffic congestion and air pollution. But the most important aspect of e-government is to boost transparency and fight corruption,” Azari Jahromi said in an interview with the Iran newspaper published on Sunday.

He also lauded President Rouhani’s assertive measures to fight corruption, saying, “The president has not exempted his own cabinet members from financial transparency.”
