A bust of Bibi Maryam Bakhtiari, a Lorish revolutionary and activist of the Constitutional Revolution, was set at the National Library and Archives of Iran (NLAI) on Tuesday evening.
The bust created by Mehri Vaalaai was installed at the NLAI Women’s Studies Section during a ceremony attended by a number of cultural figures, the NLAI announced on Wednesday.
“In this section, we try to introduce positive female role models for the youth,” explained Hanieh Geraili, an advisor to the NLAI.
“We should introduce those women as role models who not only maintain their households but also engage in various social and political activities,” she added.
The ceremony went on with a speech by Parichehr Soltani Zarasvand, the writer of “Bibi Maryam Bakhtiari, the Paradigm of Freedom”.
Qashqai music vocalist Parvin Bahmani and Bakhtiari music singer Kurosh Asdapur gave performances.
As a military commander, Bibi Maryam played a distinguished role when Bakhtiari tribal forces, with the help of modern arms from the German Empire, successfully captured Tehran in 1909 as part of the revolutionary campaign to force the central government to establish democratic reforms.
