The secretary of Supreme National Security Council of Iran (SNSC) Ali Shamkhani says that countries that rely on the US help to improve their security strengthen terrorism inside their borders.

Rear Dmiral Ali Shamkhani made the remarks in a meeting with the visiting Falah Fayaz, Iraqi National Security Advisor, on Monday, during which he also emphasized that the improvement in Iraq’s security after the ISIL defeat has paved the way for enhancing bilateral economic ties between Tehran and Baghdad.

Shamkhani hailed the role that Popular Mobilization Forces (PMF) played in returning security and normalcy to Iraq, saying that Iraq could conquer terrorism through reliance on internal and popular forces.

The Iranian top security official also said that Iran will continue to support Iraqis after the formation of the new government, praising Iraq for its democratic systems and elections.

Falah Fayaz, for his part, expressed his appreciation to Iran and its decisive role in Iraq’s victory against terrorism, adding “Iraq is against counterproductive security actions by some countries in the region…and Iraqi security forces will vigorously respond to any threats against Iraq’s and territorial integrity and security”

“Given the shared goals and interests of Iran and Iraq, strengthening the mechanisms for expanding cooperation in various fields, especially in the field of economic and technical cooperation, is essential” he concluded.
