The Iranian defense minister has described the Israeli regime’s stockpiled nuclear, chemical and biological weapons as a threat to world’s peace and security.

According to Public Relations Department of the Iranian Defense Ministry, Brigadier General Amir Hatami made the remarks in a message on the anniversary of Saddam regime’s chemical attacks on the western Iranian city of Sardasht back in 1987.

Brigadier General Hatami said that the Saddam Hussain regime’s attacks came at a time when the United States had vetoed a resolution in the UN Security Council condemning the use of chemical weapons by the Iraqi government.

The Iranian defense minister further noted after two decades of the establishment of the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) the world is still facing threats to security and peace in the [West Asia] region.

Noting that the US after 11 years has not abided by its promises to get rid of its chemical weapons stockpiles, he said that there is still the possibility that the US government would provide the terrorist groups such as the MKO and the ISIL with banned chemical and biological weapons at the risk of endangering international peace and security.

“The Zionist regime is threatening the international peace and security with its huge chemical, biological and nuclear weapons stockpiles,” the Iranian official further underlined in his message.

He further criticized the politicization of the international organizations tasked with chemical weapons disarmament, saying transforming a disarmament organization into a security and political body will lead to its failure.

At the end of his message, Brigadier General Hatami said the Iranian Ministry of Defense and Armed Forces Logistics will remember forever the children, innocent women and men of Sardasht who lost their lives or wounded by chimerical weapons and urges for a world free from nuclear, chemical and biological arms.
